Some of the Vocabulary of Natural Bioidentical Hormones

Natural Bioidentical Hormones are available in the following formats. You may have been prescribed any of the following and wondering what exactly they are. You will be taking your bioidentical hormones in the static dosing method or according to the Wiley Protocol in a biomimetic fashion. For a definition of what your prescription actually means exactly, please read further:

  • Bi-est transdermal cream is a combination of two of the estrogen hormones, estriol and estradiol.
  • Tri-est transdermal cream is a combination of the three major estrogens, estriol, estradiol and estrone
  • Troches are a sublingual form of taking hormones, dissolved at the side of the mouth

Sometimes, your prescription will be a combination of both estrogen and progesterone together. Compounded preparations can include oral capsules, patches, topical gels or vaginal suppositories.

Testosterone supplements can be taken by both men and women. Testosterone plays a major role in the health and wellness of individuals. It is chiefly used as a method of stimulating lowered libido levels for men and women.

It is believed that hormone preparations in the form of a transdermal cream are the best way of taking bioidentical hormones because the cream, when applied to the skin on certain areas of the body, passes through the skin, through the subcutaneous layer of fat beneath the skin and is gradually released, mimicking the natural physiologic release from the ovaries of the hormones. If hormones are taken orally, not all of the dose is absorbed because the hormones pass through the liver, metabolized and excreted. Only a little of the dose will actually end up circulating as a real hormone, and therefore, wasted.
