Andropause

Andropause, otherwise known as PADAM – Partial Androgen Deficiency in the Aging Male, or “male menopause”, is when male androgens progressively decrease with age. Between the ages of 25 and 70, tests of androgen hormone levels show a 90% decline. The decline in androgen levels, although normal, is accompanied a decrease in libido, energy and mood. It can also expose men to more serious health risks.

The Symptoms of Andropause:

• Low sex drive
• Psychological, emotional, and behavioral changes for example: depression
• Low energy, fatigue
• Decreased muscle mass
• Loss of muscle strength
• Increased upper and central body fat
• Osteoporosis or weak bones and back pain
• Cardiovascular risk

Our Recommendations:

• Supplement your diet selenium, vitamin D, iodine and a multivitamin/mineral supplement. For the exact dosages, contact your doctor, naturopath or homeopathic specialist.

• Have a hormone panel done to check what hormones are low and investigate bioidentical hormone replacement for testosterone and progesterone
• Eat healthy, natural foods, decrease intake of fats
• Exercise regularly and control your weight
• Avoid sugar

Research has revealed that men with low levels of the hormone testosterone are three times more likely to have increased risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease and diabetes, a condition known as “metabolic syndrome”. Risk factors include waist measurement over 40 inches, high levels of cholesterol, high blood pressure and high blood sugar…”
