Can Vitamin D Cure Breast Cancer?
Nutritional supplements are getting the same rap from the government as bioidentical hormones. Read further. Let us know what you think.
I was watching the television yesterday and came upon a man by the name of Bob Barefoot, a best selling author and scientist, who was being interviewed. He is the author of a series of books on health and nutrition.
He is claiming that Vitamin D can cure breast cancer and, in fact, reduces all cancers by 50%. Mr. Barefoot said that the government has suppressed many clinical studies on nutrition and Vitamin D because of the potential loss of revenue to pharmaceutical companies who earn big dollars selling drugs for such diseases as cancer, diabetes and lupus.
Bob Barefoot is claiming in his series of books how we can protect against disease and even cure diseases by nutritional supplements. He states that high doses of Vitamin D and marine grade coral calcium can cure breast cancer.
The large pharmaceutical companies claim that using high doses of various vitamins has caused death, but there is no actual proof of this. When have you ever heard or read of anyone dying of an overdose of vitamins? However, time and again, year after year, many people die using pharmaceutical drugs and these drugs are then taken off the market. That is a common occurrence, indeed. It raises immense suspicion that governments and the FDA are trying to ban his books and continue to suppress clinical studies of vitamins.
It reminds me again of what Suzanne Somers has been saying all along about natural bioidentical hormones. When women stopped using synthetic hormones because of the findings of the Womens Health Study in 2002, a study of women using synthetic estrogen with progestin, the pharmaceutical companies lost a lot of money. Pharmaceutical companies then tried repeated and lastly in 2009 to stop compounding pharmacies from making individualized bioidentical hormone prescriptions and tried to get the FDA and the courts to make natural bioidentical hormones illegal. Why are they doing this? The reason is very simple: because both vitamins and bioidentical hormones CANNOT BE PATENTED. Pharmaceutical companies cannot market vitamins and individualized bioidentical hormone prescriptions. There’s no PROFIT in it for them.
Most recently, Suzanne Somers wrote an article on her blog titled, “Another Attempt on Capital Hill To Take Away Our Vitamins.” Not only is the U.S. Government trying to but also the Canadian government is trying to do the same thing. It seems rather odd to me, that BOTH governments in North America are trying to do the same thing, to protect the pharmaceutical industry.
Suzanne has also recently written a book based on interviews with doctors who practice and preach about alternative cures for cancer. These doctors are going against mainstream medicine and the typical treatments of chemo/radiation treatments for cancer. Alternative medicine and bioidentical hormone use is growing and the government is trying to block your right to choose.
Let’s think about this a little longer. If both governments are trying to do the same thing to protect the huge pharmaceutical companies’ BIG profits, then perhaps there is reason to their madness. They want to protect their markets and their HUGH profits. What else can it be?
Someone once asked me the question, if they discovered a cure for cancer or AIDS, do you really think they would publish this knowledge? Of course not. Why? Because if the cure for these diseases was discovered, the pharmaceutical industry would no longer be making the huge profits from the drugs they manufacture. Therefore, they create drugs which ease the symptoms of the patient and because the patient is not cured, the patient continues to need these expensive drugs, bringing in the profits over and over again.
At the current time, you can still buy Bob Barefoot’ books online which are available at Amazon and on his website: TVCureBooks.com.
Think for yourself. The next time your government tries to take away your right to your vitamins and natural bioidentical hormones, it’s time to speak up, sign a petition and express your disgust. They are only attempting to do this because it’s costing them. BIG BUCKS. Don’t let your right to use vitamins and bioidentical hormones be taken away.

Synthetic Progestin Breast Cancer Risk
A recent article (May 6, 2010) appeared in the Canadian Press which, no doubt, will increase menopausal women’s fear about breast cancer and hormone replacement therapy. This confusion is ongoing among some of the medical community and women because of the confusion between bioidentical progesterone and synthetic progestin. This led me to an intense search on the internet and through the books written by medical doctors on the connection between hormone replacement therapy and breast cancers. The article is misleading because it is not a discussion on natural bio-identical progesterone.
The article in the Canadian Press titled “Breast Cancer, Hormone Link Found” immediately drew my attention to it. The article stated one thing in particular which was alarming.
“Scientists from the Ontario Cancer Institute have found the Ovarian hormone progesterone drives the production of stem cells in breast tissue, which creates an environment ripe for cancer to take root.”
This statement alarmed me and probably alarmed many women and men who are using natural bioidentical hormones to manage their symptoms of menopause and andropause. Men are also prescribed bioidentical progesterone (among other bioidentical hormones) in their natural hormone replacement therapy to treat their symptoms of andropause.
The article is somewhat misleading because it is not a discussion on bioidentical progesterone. They are discussing the synthetic progestin under the brand names of Premarin®, Provera®, and Prempro® that is manufactured by pharmaceutical companies and not identical in structure to the hormones produced by the body. The Women’s Health Initiative Study in 2002 found that the use of synthetic hormones in the treatment of menopause increased women’s risk of heart disease and breast cancer. Many subsequent studies have proven the same thing.
What I then did after reading this rather alarming article was go to the internet and open up the books written by medical doctors on the subject of progesterone (NOT progestin) to again read what the experts say. There is an overwhelming body of evidence on the benefits of bioidentical progesterone and the harmful effects of progestin in causing breast cancer. I thought I should then present you with an excerpt from a white paper by a leading endocrinologist in the United States, Dr. Mark L. Gordon.
You will also find many other doctors who specialize in the treatment of menopause and andropause who have done the research and confidently prescribe natural bioidentical hormones to their patients. More and more women and men, for that matter, are using bioidentical hormones in North America. In Europe, bioidentical hormones have been used by women for the last 55 years. Natural progesterone “bashing” began with the pioneer Dr John R. Lee’s release of research on the benefits of bio-identical progesterone use. The following is written by Dr. Mark L. Gordon and sums up all the actual research on breast cancer and the effects of both the health benefits of bioidentical progesterone and harmful effects of synthetic progestin on the formation of breast cancer.
The well-established body of literature demonstrating the harmful effects of non-bioidentical
hormones might lead some women to fear taking bioidentical hormones as well. A review of the
published scientific literature indicates those fears are misunderstood and unfounded. For
example, thirteen studies document that non-bioidentical progestin significantly increases
estrogen-stimulated breast cell replication and growth.4-16 In stark contrast, seven studies have
shown that bioidentical progesterone inhibits estrogen-stimulated breast cells.17-23
Numerous studies have demonstrated an increased risk of breast cancer with the use of nonbioidentical progestin.24-51 However, the use of bioidentical progesterone has not been
associated with an increased risk of breast cancer. Quite the contrary, research has revealed that
bioidentical progesterone decreases the risk of breast cancer. In a study published in the
journal Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, 80,000 postmenopausal women using various
forms of HRT were followed for more than 8 years. Women who used estrogen in combination
with non-bioidentical progestin had a 69% increased risk of breast cancer, compared to the
control group. However, for women who used bioidentical progesterone in combination with
estrogen, the increased risk of breast cancer was completely eliminated with a significant
reduction in breast cancer risk compared with non-bioidentical progestin use.52
In another investigation, these same researchers found a 40% increased risk of breast cancer for
women who used estrogen with non-bioidentical progestin. Interestingly, women who used
estrogen combined with bioidentical progesterone had a 10% reduced risk of breast cancer,
compared to women who had never used HRT.53 In essence, bioidentical progesterone
protected women against the development of breast cancer. Confirmation of these findings was
provided by a study of 1150 women that documented a 20% reduced risk of breast cancer in
women taking bioidentical progesterone, compared to non-users of progesterone.149
Compelling research offers further insight into progesterone’s ability to defend against breast
cancer. In a fascinating study, scientists administered estrogen alone, bioidentical progesterone
alone, estrogen plus bioidentical progesterone, or placebo to 40 women prior to surgery for
breast cancer. The hormones were applied topically to the breast for about 12 days before
surgery. As expected, when given alone estrogen caused a 62% increase in breast cell
proliferation rates (a measure of cancer cell growth) compared to placebo. Conversely, the
addition of bioidentical progesterone to estrogen resulted in a complete reversal of the estrogeninduced
increase in breast cell proliferation rates. Even more impressive was the finding that the
group receiving bioidentical progesterone alone had a 66% lower breast cell proliferation rate
compared to the placebo group.54A growing body of literature has documented a definite connection between a woman’s
progesterone levels and her subsequent risk for breast cancer. A trial reported in the
International Journal of Caner in 2004 measured blood levels of progesterone in 5,963
premenopausal women. The analysis of the data revealed that women with the highest blood
levels of progesterone had a 60% decreased risk of breast cancer, compared to women with the
lowest progesterone levels. Incredibly, those women with the highest progesterone levels who
had regular menses experienced an 88% decreased risk of breast cancer.55 These findings were
corroborated by another study in which 1,083 women treated for infertility were followed for
upwards of 33 years to determine their subsequent breast cancer risk. Compared to women with
normal progesterone levels, those deficient in progesterone had a 440% increased risk of
premenopausal breast cancer, and were 10 times as likely to die from any cancer.56
5
Similarly, researchers at the University of North Carolina School of Public Health measured
progesterone levels in pregnant women, who were then followed for upwards of 32 years. The
researchers discovered that those women with the highest blood levels of progesterone during
pregnancy had a 51% decreased risk of breast cancer, compared to women with the lowest
levels of progesterone during pregnancy. When the researchers analyzed the risk of breast
cancer in women under age 51, those with the highest progesterone levels had a staggering 70%
decreased risk compared to the group with the lowest progesterone levels.59Findings from two other investigations revealed that survival rates for breast cancer are strongly
correlated with the patient’s progesterone levels at the time of surgery. One study noted that
65% of women with a progesterone level of 4.0 ng/ml or more on the day of their surgery were
alive 18 years later, while only 35% of women with low progesterone levels on the day of
surgery were still living after 18 years. The scientists noted that progesterone lowers the
expression of vascular endothelial growth factor, which promotes the increase in new blood
vessels (angiogenesis) that is essential for tumor growth. These scientists concluded: “This
study has confirmed that a raised level of progesterone at the time of tumor excision is
associated with an improvement in prognosis for women with operable breast cancer.”57-58
I am reassured by what Dr. Mark L. Gordon has written about the benefits of bioidentical progesterone to the breasts. The article in the Canadian Press misleads women because the researchers have mixed up progesterone and progestin, believing them to be the same.
