Bioidentical Hormones for Men
Bioidentical hormones for men will help men to achieve and maintain hormone levels and overall health and well being into their later years. Men also need to take bioidentical hormones to replace diminishing hormone levels as they age. Most men think that only their testosterone levels decline as they age, but, in fact, their progesterone and estrogen levels decrease or become unbalanced as they get older. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is not just for women.
Men experience the same kind of “transformation” which is known as menopause for women. For men, as they age, they will experience declining or increasing hormone level fluctuations and hormonal changes that affect wellbeing, health, sexual and cognitive function. This period of life for men is known as andropause. As a man reaches his forties, testosterone levels begin to decline. Plaque begins to form as testosterone levels decrease. At the same time, a man’s progesterone and estrogen levels are declining or estrogen levels could be increasing. It would well be advised that men get a hormone panel done when they reach their late 30s. It is at this age, that men should also start to eat healthily if they are not, and exercise if they are not regularly exercising. By practicing healthy habits, a man’s hormones will remain normal for a longer period of time. Other factors such as environment, stress levels and toxicity will also negatively affect one’s hormone levels.
Some men will find their doctors telling them at the age of approximately 40 – 50, they have too much testosterone. It’s not a good thing. However, the problem is actually the sex hormone binding globulin which increases with age. This is a protein which binds testosterone and makes it useless and negates testosterone. Men should be checked for free testosterone levels. The doctor should aim to lower the levels of the sex hormone binding globulin and free testosterone levels will increase to a normal level. Lowering the sex hormone binding globulin can be achieved naturally or by prescription medication. The problem for men with low free testosterone levels is that there will be difficulty in obtaining and maintaining an erection, risk of stroke and heart attacks. Taking the bioidentical hormone testosterone will increase feelings of well-being and it acts as a major vasodilator for the pelvic structure, the heart and the brain. The health risks associated with hormonal imbalance can be corrected with bioidentical hormones for men.
Iodine is also important for maintaining hormonal balance. In Japan, there are drastically lower rates of prostrate cancer, breast cancer and bowel cancers. Japanese people consume eight to ten times more iodine in their diets than the people of North America. The Japanese diet consists of seafood, kelp, miso and other foods rich in iodine. Iodine must be supplemented daily because it plays a very important role in maintaining hormonal balance in both men and women.
Hormone health for men also includes taking other nutritional supplements such as selenium, Vitamin D3, and a good multivitamin and mineral supplement on a daily basis. Speak to your anti-aging specialist or a naturopath for the right dosages for you personally.
Visit your doctor who specializes in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Get a hormone panel done by your doctor. For men, estrogen, free testosterone, and progesterone levels must be checked. If your estrogen level is high, a man is at a greater risk for strokes and heart attacks. Supplementing with bioidentical progesterone will help balance your estrogen levels. After you have had your hormone levels checked, you will receive a prescription for your bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. You must then find a compounding pharmacy which will fill out your prescription. Most men will be taking a testosterone and progesterone bioidentical hormones to balance their hormone levels as they age. Natural BHRT (bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is not just for women. Bioidentical hormones for men is now becoming a more common method to achieve health and well being as we age.
